Prewriting Tips

• Develop strong or distinctive characters. For example, their favorite food, clothe music, mood or attitudes about life.
• Dialogue that develop characters (relationships, motivations and conflict) and advance the plot.
• Setting – the time and place of the story.
• Story is told from a specific point of view (i.e. first person and/or third person narrator).
• Plot or series of events that leads to the climax to make the story unique.
• Use either foreshadowing, metaphor or irony.
• Theme that is revealed by the story’s end.
• Write for a specific audience (i.e. reader based prose).
• Word story of 3000 – 6000 and requires precision.
